Where to start? If I started at the beginning that would be 7 years ago. All good stories say to speed through things that take time and dwell on those moments that are fleeting. i’ll revisit the past in other posts, but the Software diaries are going to concentrate on a new product we are building to answer the three founding issues with project delivery:
- Projects are late
- The big picture, the holistic view, is broken if point 1 above = true
- Politics breaks everything. If 1 = true (Late): Then 1 + Politics = False (Not Late), everyone keeps billing.
We are going to attack this by understanding two distinct issues:
- What are you doing?
- How long does it take, I mean really take…?
That is the question the Software Development diaries is drilling into. Now I appreciate the current climate provides a poor example as outside influences add stresses to a project that are unrivaled in modern times. Risk, the future influences that could effect a project, will manifest into real change. Not often huge changes like the current Covid Pandemic, so as we strive to work on making projects efficient it is easy to say “Well it’s late because of the impact of Covid on working conditions”!
True to a point, but something like this should be an adjustment to a schedule not a continued stretch to the projects timetable and that is something we want to address as well, scope creep :O So join us as we work through the software life cycle to build our very own tool, “The Next Steps Log”…
